Key Insights from SAFe® Lean Portfolio Management Course

“Eating your own dog food” helps you understand how customers may experience  your own products and services. This week we tested the Lean Portfolio Management course taught by Deema Dajani (to the left of the Big Picture).

The course explained some of the fundamental differences between a program and project based approach to portfolio management and a value-based approach.

As the organisation matures on their lean-agile journey, some of the biggest challenges relate to how the company manages its portfolio.

One of the biggest changes is probably the shift from funding programs and projects to funding value steams and all that goes with it. Another big difference is that an epic is only tracked in the portfolio kanban to the point where its potential benefit has been tested through the release and validation of a Minimum Viable Product.

It was really interesting  hearing about how far different companies have come and the experiences that people have had introducing lean portfolio management.
